The Future of Regional Heritage

The volunteer committee have been working behind the scenes this year to lay the foundations for our first major project – a consultation process exploring the possibilities and challenges for the future of the heritage sector across the region.

The consultation process will include a series of consultation/networking meetings across the region in the next few months to meet with organisations and individuals to discuss and identify:

  • how the regional heritage sector has been impacted by the major challenges of the past few years – drought, bushfire, floods, Covid, cost of living etc;
  • the existing strengths and successful strategies implemented across the region;
  • the current and strategic issues facing the sector into the future;
  • the possibilities and opportunities; and
  • the development and support needs of staff, volunteers, artists and professionals within the sector to take advantage of those opportunities.

This consultation process will provide information to assist us to develop strategies to navigate those issues and challenges, and to advocate for resources to support the regional heritage sector.

We’re seeking local history/heritage organisations to assist us in arranging venues and publicising the event to their members and the community in their area. In return, and with the generous support of Arts North West, we’re offering the assisting organisation a 1-hour professional development workshop to be conducted on the same day. See our workshops page for the list of offered workshops, subect to the availability of the particular presenter on the day the consultation session is scheduled.

Here’s a short video, introducing some of our Committee and the Future of Regional Heritage consultation project:
